Staff Mobility and Impact

The project presents a range of opportunities for staff and students to enhance their skills and knowledge in engineering education research and practice. Staff members will be selected based on their participation in online activities, ensuring their engagement and commitment to the program. Trainees, comprising existing postgraduate students interested in pursuing academic careers, will have the chance to apply for participation, similar to scholarship applications.

Training programs will be conducted at consortium institutions, aimed at promoting educational development and research skills in engineering education. Drawing from successful models at KTH, these programs will be adapted to suit regional contexts before implementation. Virtual meetings will facilitate co-creation and collaboration, complemented by a week-long immersion into faculty development activities at regional hubs. KTH’s collaboration experience through the Global Development Hub (GDH) underscores its commitment to forming meaningful partnerships in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Regarding mobility, various activities are proposed for different participant groups. Staff members will undergo “Training the Trainer” programs to enhance their teaching and mentoring abilities. Trainees will have the opportunity to participate in “Summer School” and writing retreats, offering intensive training and support for their research endeavours.

Additionally, students can pursue Masters and PhD coursework at the Centre for Engineering Education at the University of Cape Town, allowing them to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in the field. Dissemination of the research conducted by these students will contribute to growing capacity in engineering education research on the continent and support future funding applications and addressing identified challenges.
